Come with us as we take a look at the fantastic big day of Amy & Brett. Filled with fun, laughter and friends, the Riding School was glowing with festoon lights which delicately lit every corner of the characterful barn, all perfectly captured by the very talented husband and wife team at HBA Photography.
When your working with such a fun couple, and such a unique venue like Calke Abbey, you just know it’s going to be a wedding worthy of any wedding magazine or blog. Without too much extravagance or fuss, Amy & Brett managed to create a beautiful atmosphere using lighting and thoughtful details, whilst still allowing the quirky character of this unique space to speak for itself. Photographers are spoilt for choice at Calke, with over 600 acres of stunning parkland, the backdrops are endless. Rolling meadows, ancient woodland and beautiful aged brick buildings. Amy & Brett chose to tie the knot in the Autumn with the gardens and grounds a wash with autumnal colours.
For a bride arriving onto the estate, driving down the tree lined avenue and down the winding mile long driveway, is quite a moment. Guests also have the pleasure of admiring the beautiful and tranquil parkland as the road snakes towards the stable buildings. Hidden over the brow of the hill, the grand house itself is revealed on approach, another fantastic spot for photos.
Amy & Brett kept the styling in the Riding School simple but effective with the perfect warm festoon lighting provided by Fabric Theatre. The festoons draped thirty metres across the entire ceiling, drawing attention to the vast open beams. The sheer draping used to separate the room into three sections creates an intimate space for a ceremony whilst still maintaining the feel of spaciousness.
Surrounded by enthusiastic friends and family, Amy & Brett tied the knot before enjoying a ‘classic Calke confetti shot’ in the entrance courtyard. This quirky cobbled courtyard is perfect for catching afternoon sun and provides a private seating and smoking area.
As the sun set over the grounds, the everchanging light and shadow in the Riding School formed the perfect backdrop to a full dancefloor and atmospheric bar lounge area buzzing with family and friends. We particularly love how HBA managed to play with the lighting to acheive some fantastic moody images.
