Our Top 5 Wedding Trends for 2020 | UK Wedding Blog

2020-01-10T16:01:31+00:00January 3rd, 2020|

And just like that, it’s January all over again! Hands up if you’re getting married this year and still have so much wedding planning to do? Fear not, we’ve compiled a list of some of our top wedding decor trends for 2020 to help give you some inspiration – whether you want to know the latest colour trend, or you’re looking to really add a modern twist to your day…

‘Sustainability’ was such a buzzword for 2019, and it’s going to be even bigger this year. We’ll see more couples ridding their wedding of single-use plastics and synthetic confetti, and getting creative with less wasteful options. Thankfully, there are so many ways you can make your wedding eco-friendly; try using real petal confetti that’s biodegradable – these make for some amazing photographs too with the beautiful colours of real blooms, just like the photo above from Anna & Bas’ wedding day, by Greg Milner Photography. Why not also try offering plants or seeds as wedding favours? Your guests can grow a sunflower, for example, and it’ll always remind them of your special day. Finally, have a chat with your florist and ask where they’re sourcing their flowers – a lot of them may have cutting gardens and grow their own which is brilliant, but if they’re out-sourcing, ask them to use flowers that are in season to reduce carbon footprint.

One of our favourite trends of the upcoming year will be minimalism. Think muted colour palettes and soft textures – a little less greenery and a little more pampas grass and dried flowers. Venues will be lined with lots of stripped-back wooden furnishings like Rosehill Furnishings’ church chairs, as well as long rows of banquet-style tables, and brides will be wearing all-over satin dress with no embroidery or embellishments, and a simple yet elegant hairstyle, slicked back into a tight bun.

In complete contrast to the minimalism trend, maximalism will have it’s time too – over-the-top in every possible way. Think bright, tropical colours, extravagant floral displays, and an untraditional wedding gown (or even separates…) We’re seeing a lot of fuschia and tropical green as opposed to the dark eucalyptus green of 2019.

Industrial / Grunge

A huge trend that has been on the rise over the last couple of years has been industrial weddings – oh so hip couples getting married in warehouses and city back streets; although it’s a complete contrast to our stately home, country house wedding venues, it’s still a trend you can give a nod to even if you’ve already booked your venue. Make the most of high ceilings and exposed brick by adding neon signs. Have street food trucks serving evening food. You could even opt for a temporary tattoo bar to keep your guests entertained…

Something Blue

Last but not least, one of the biggest colour trends of the year: Blue. Pantone announced its ‘Colour of the Year’ for 2020 as ‘Classic Blue’; “a shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk”. The perfect way to incorporate ‘Something Blue’ into your wedding day, and something that works all year round. If you’re getting married in spring or summer, use lighter hues of the colour – they look great with soft peaches and lemon yellows. For autumn or winter, try deeper blues with burnt oranges or a rich and dark burgundy.

What’s your favourite wedding trend for 2020? We’d love to know…
