Traditionally it’s that time of year when we look back and swoon over the gorgeous weddings we’ve had the pleasure of hosting at Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey & Gainsborough Old Hall in 2015. However, whilst trying to hold true to that tradition, as I looked back, I was utterly distracted by the amazing ‘wedfest’ wedding photographs belonging to the lovely Cat & Simon from the year before. How have we not shared these with you before now?
There was no way I could concentrate onwriting how wonderful 2015 has been when I kept being drawn back to the most fabulous ‘Wedfest’ festival themed wedding of 2014! What better time than during our wet and cold Christmas festivities to think ahead to glorious summer festivals instead – just like Cat and Simon did last year.
Is it too soon to forget Christmas festivities and think forward to summer festivals?
Cat & Simon started their marital journey with a beautiful and traditional wedding at Melbourne Church, Derbyshire and then continued their celebrations with us at our rustic blank canvas wedding venue the Riding School, Calke Abbey.
Their wedding guests were surprised to discover that not just any old wedding reception was awaiting their arrival at Calke Abbey; but instead a festival inspired wedding reception that Glastonbury would have been proud of!!
From the moment the guests received their ‘VIP pass’ invite, the stage was set. Bold coloured ribbons, golden sunflowers and dark rock memorabilia were used to dramatically decorate The Riding School. To personalise the event even further, the happy couple used old records with specially printed labels of their favourite songs as their seating plan and table names. They also gave each guest a quote, from the lyrics of a song, that reminded them of that person. Such small details added an extra special touch to a day that was perfectly rounded off by a fantastic band covering all of the favourite festival hits of The Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Elbow and the rest.
With their passion of music and their love for the Arctic Monkeys, Cat & Simon created their very own WEDFEST that was truly spectacular and genuinely makes us excited for the summer of 2016 now!
This was the first time the amazing Graeme & Lee of Humpston & Bull Photography captured a wedding with us at Calke Abbey, and didn’t they serve there purpose well!
